Makes Sense

Friday, November 10th, 2006

You know that guy or girl that compares times to yours or, even better, to world champions and somehow figures that since they did X and X was somehow before Y then he/she is faster than that person? We’ve all heard it….

The seven-time Tour de France champion made an impressive marathon debut Sunday, accomplishing his goal of finishing in less than 3 hours and thrilling fans who seemed much more enthused at seeing Armstrong than watching a Brazilian man and a Latvian woman win titles earlier on a crisp autumn afternoon.

Armstrong’s time was 2 hours, 59 minutes and 36 seconds. His shirt soaked in sweat, he virtually walked the last couple of steps to the finish line. He shuffled into a post-race news conference, his right shin heavily taped…..

He was paced for most of the race by former marathon champions Alberto Salazar and Joan Benoit Samuelson and middle-distance running great Hicham El Guerrouj, and said he got a lot of support from fans packed along the course…

Will he be back?

“Now’s not the time to ask that question. The answer now is no, I’ll never be back. But I reserve the right to change my mind,” he said. “I don’t know how these guys do it.” (NY TIMES).”

I’m faster than LANCE ARMSTRONG!

Montana Matters

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

My home state lays pretty low then BAM! decides, out of the cold dark blue to vote democrat for the first time in decades and I have hope again.  Thanks Montana.  Did I mention I love you?

I appreciate the texts telling me thanks for Montana’s decision.  I had nothing to do with it, other than the fact that I threw a fit in 2000 when I was working for Gubanatorial Candidate, Mark O’Keefe, who lost, then left the state vowing never to listen to NPR again. Well, now, I’m listening to NPR again. I’m not about to declare a revolution, but maybe we have turned the corner, my friends.

In honor of things, I’ve downloaded a bunch of Talib Kweli, whose rhyme strike me these days:(except how hard it is to be a black girl, I don’t have much experience there)”….  I got a part to play, we going hard these days…
F–k the harder way, we doing it the smarter way
…the revolution starts today…”

Or, at least I’m paying attention today.

Bye Bye, Rumsfeld,

Compelled to post

twice today. yup.  I got this on my desk a few days ago. Check this (Thanks to Lucas, disrupting minds across the US of A):

“I have to admit, this made me laugh, From CNN.com  If you have broeder’s email, pass it on to her, would you?  I lost it somewhere.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) — The Rev. Ted Haggard, who resigned as one of the nation’s top evangelical leaders, admitted Friday he had contacted male prostitute Mike Jones “for a massage” and bought drugs from him.

Haggard said he never had sex with Jones and never used the methamphetamine drug he bought.

He told reporters earlier this week that he did not know Jones, who claims to have had a three-year sex-for-money relationship with him.

Haggard, 50, resigned Thursday as leader of the National Association of Evangelicals — a group representing more than 45,000 churches and 30 million people — and he also stepped down temporarily from leadership at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

He was one of a group of religious leaders who regularly participated in conference calls with White House aides.

Haggard told CNN affiliate KUSA-TV Friday that he received Jones’ name as “a referral” from a hotel where he was staying in Denver.

He did not name the hotel. “I did call him,” Haggard said. “I called him to buy some meth, but I threw it away.”

“I was buying it for me but I never used it. I was tempted, I bought it, but I never used it.”

“He told me about it. I went there for a massage.”

Earlier, Jones said he would not back down from his allegations despite a polygraph test that showed “deception.”

Jones took the test voluntarily, answering questions about his alleged ties with the Haggard, who regularly participates in White House advisory conference calls.”

Why Reno?

Why not?

I am not going to be one of those bloggers that apologizes for not updating because I would have to believe that people actually read my site to feel any sort of remorse…I should actually be apologizing for blogging when I do update.
I went on a roadtrip to San Fran, stopping in Flag for Halloween (pics to follow) and picked up my comrade, Jake, for the ride.  He wasn’t doin’ much, and was able to be talked into a long road trip with me, so I plopped him down in Reno with my friend, KJ, who works nights.  I had an interview at the Academy of Art, so spent some time there with GoGo and others, using Reno as my launching point.  San Fran was great.  Not sure where to even begin on that one, but the school is top notch.  GoGo is off and running with his fairly new modeling career.  Pretty amazing thing he’s got going.  I am wishing him all the best…..I am training again, so Reno provided a bit of  training camp #1 for me and my buddy: The start of 2007. I am luvin’ my bike.  I am also going to grad school soon.  I pretty much have my head down, which is a nice, peaceful feeling for me.
Reno.  I had heard there was good riding here.  There’s some altitude.  Some hills and stuff.  Nice mild weather. Here’s what you might not know about Reno.

Group Ride?  What Group Ride?  Having tried on Saturday and Sunday via info gathered from the world wide web, we were either in the wrong spot or the only ones.  I don’t know what happened but is there a group ride?

The seedy section of town makes Tucson look like the Hollywood Hills.  We played ’spot the hooker’ and I won so I got to pay for Jake’s hooker.

When out of the seedy section, it’s all old people.  After ’spot the hooker’, we played ’spot the person our age’, which turned out to be a tougher game than ’spot the hooker’.

I found out what is wrong with America in one small, meaningless experience.  We went to The Departed, a brilliant Martin Scorcesse film with lots of f-bombs, still motion shoot out scenes, hands being cut off, self-inflicted gunshot wounds, mobster stuff, cop killings,,,,,all the ingredients for several nights of nightmares, and a couple sat behind us eating tons of junk food while smaking their lips, talking all the way through the flick trying to iron out the plot, WITH THEIR SEVEN YEAR OLD.  WHAAAAAAAAAAAA!?!?!  I heard the kid yelp, “wow. TWO cops killed that time!” at one point. Call me a prude.  I’m going to ask my mom why she didn’t expose me to Scorcesse films when I was a tyke cuz maybe I’d be less affected by them now. Great movie, nonetheless…for adults, that is.  I feel like I am barely ready for that film, like I was not mature enough two years ago.
I’m searching for the loosest slots.  Actually.  I’m not, but figured maybe the Albertson’s I have been frequenting has them because there are always packed full of gamers.

The coolest coffee shop in town, Les Duex Gros Nez (?) or something like that, on California Street upstairs, is closing it’s doors on Nov. 30th.  You should go there if you are here and tell them they are nice and cool.  Lots of cycling memorabilia on the ceilings and walls.

Lastly, I tried to contact Candy to see what the appeal is here, since I heard he might be here.  Phone went to VM so i imagined it ringing at the bottom of the ocean somewhere.  I have yet to find the appeal, but will look again today. No offense to Reno, the biggest little city in the world, but it’s not immediately striking me.  I’m also going to do some research at the Reno Museum of Art, a pretty neat building…

Signing off for now from a place called My Favorite Muffin and Bagel Shop which might be my favorite muffin and bagel shop in Nevada so far,
