Discovery
I am often on a mission for more knowledge. Here are the gems I picked up this weekend:
*Throw in ‘Tucson‘, ‘Tucson Cycling’ or ‘Tucson Characters’, as tags in any search engine and you will get Ron Hudson or better yet, Marco Rullo. I can’t describe him right now if you don’t know him already. I actually, go figure, really like the guy. I was on a rare bicycle ride on Saturday and the thought crossed my mind, “wonder if Ron is still kickin’ around”. Yes. He won Mount Graham a couple weeks ago and the Tucson Citizen interviewed the “Italian” from Compton from Minot , ND. He compared the race to the racing he’s done in the Dolomites.
*When hiking with Germans you can actually climb a fire tower that is surrounded by tens of radiotowers with no one bugging you about ‘vorbotten’ stuff. The view is incredible up there, too.
*The saying, ‘just like riding a bike’ means ‘it real hard and not familiar at all’ when you’re drunk and there is no light on the city streets. I’m all for limiting light pollution but not when I’m weaving down the road.
*You actually CAN lose Curtis’ kids in a crowd of Mariachi dancers when you answer your cell phone and talk for 4 seconds.
* Most importantly, it gets cold enough to turn leaves different colors somewhere really close to Tucson. Yea!! This photo was cropped, as I was wearing longjohns, wool socks, shorts, and hiking boots. It was obscene.
*Most of the cyclists I know are injured right now. I have achilles tendonitis. We suck at this offseason business.
That’s all I’ve got. Big shoutout to the folks I saw this weekend that I haven’t seen in about 10 months.
